New SIM card not valid

I am posting on behalf of my elderly mum who has received her new Virgin SIM card. She has an older 2g Nokia 1112. The message we are receiving is ‘SIM card not valid’. From past experience this probably means that the phone is not compatible with the new SIM. I understand you are turning off your 2G network soon and this will leave my 83 year old Mum without a mobile phone/emergency contact at a time when she is more vulnerable during COVID-19. My Mum is not interested in a new phone as she cannot get user to a more complex newer phone as we have tried this before. It’s also not easy to speak to one of your operators as we are in a local lockdown where mixing with different households is restricted. Can anyone please help?
