New SIM - can't use mobile data

When I put in my new SIM (provided by Virgin, not requested), I got a text saying they would be sending me messages to set up for internet - but none ever arrived. I cannot use mobile data, I assume because I never got the texts to set up internet. (Have tried a couple of things on this site but no further forward.) Any ideas please? Thanks.

Can we please confirm if you've resolved this since your post on Thursday? 

 

If you're still experiencing some issues could we please confirm the handset type? Are you able to refresh the network settings and see if this helps?

Hi, thanks for responding. Still got same issue. No mobile data. I have refreshed the settings, but still the same. Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7.

When I put the new SIM in, I got an acknowledgement text, then a text saying "We're about to send you messages that will set up your phone for internet.....".

The next text said "Great stuff. You may need to look in your phone's notifications and accept the updates to use....data services."

....No messages to set up phone, nothing in notifications.

Check you have the correct APN settings

These work with your phone. Usually you only need the combined ones

Internet APN.
Name: WEB
APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
MCC: 234
MNC: 38
Authentication Type: CHAP
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming protocol: IPv4
Leave all other options blank/Not set

MMS APN.
Name: MMS
APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
MMSC: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.30.166.2
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 38
Authentication Type: CHAP
APN Type: mms
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming protocol: IPv4
Leave all other options blank/Not set

But you could/can merge the two together if you wish too.

Internet & MMS APN.
Name: WEB
APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
MMSC: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.30.166.2
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 38
Authentication type: CHAP
APN type: *
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Leave all other options blank/Not set

Thanks for this - but unfortunately already tried this when I first spotted the issue. No luck I'm afraid.

Authentication type is PAP. That's what is working on my phone right now.

There are a few phones which do play up, there are a couple of things to try.

Like @djdat has mentioned, you can try

:- Authentication type: PAP

Also you can try

:- Username: user
