NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

Have replaced old SIM card with new SIM just received in post. Message which appears is SIM NOT VALID. The phone in question is a Nokia 1800 - this phone does not even appear on the list of Nokia phones which appears on the VirginMedia website. What to do.

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

Yes, I have the same problem.  SIM Not Valid message, using a Nokia 1661, which was bought from Virgin Media.

There have been other posts from people with the same problem.

What is the solution Virgin Media?

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

Undoubtedly you need unlock codes for both of these phones.

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

I have inserted my new sim and my phone has been dead ever since.  Even the old sim will not work now - why can't they leave well enough alone?

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

You will not be prompted for an unlock code on old original Nokia phones

This is the general procedure

  1. Switch ON your NOKIA without SIM Card,
  2. Compose #PW+CODE+7# ,
  3. The phone shows "SIM Restriction Off" and is unlocked.

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

OK. Appreciate the tip. It is only letting me type in numbers, not letters, yet alone capital letters!

Re: NEW SIM NOT VALID MESSAGE

I have the same problem with the new SIM in my Nokia X6 - Sim card not valid.

The phone shows a T-Mobile splash screen on start-up, but has always worked fine up to now on Virgin.

I cannot find any way of putting in a code & am not being prompted for one.

Do you have any idea how I can get over this please ?

  • The letter W appear after press 4 times quickly the button star (*)
  • The letter + appear after press 2 times quickly the button star (*)

T-Moble flash screen means it will have been locked by the old T-Mobile. They were the network suppliers to Virgin some years back so the old Virgin SIM would work. You struck lucky in a way.

I doubt Virgin could get you an unlock code for a phone bought on a different network.

If you want to keep using it in its present state EE based SIM cards on the likes of 1p Mobile and ASDA will work.
