I am currently in the Isle of Man and have no mobile data and can’t send/receive calls or text messages. I had the same problem in the USA last august but thought it was a problem with being in the states. I have used this iphone abroad before (Spain and IOM) with no problems.
I’ve logged into my account and roaming is activated and no international call barring. I’ve tried all the tips online and in forums and can’t connect to a network. I’ve tried restarting the phone and turning the airplane mode on and off. Tried manually connecting to networks.
please can someone help as I have important calls I need to receive while I’m here??

Unless you have the SiM Toolkit on your phone and able to change roaming to International it's not going to work.
The team on here can take you through all sorts of checks but this has gone on for years. Do a forum search for IOM or Isle of Mann.
They will probably take this thread private.
Good luck

Hi Flick43,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the community.
Many apologies for the service issues faced when aborad, can I ask when you are manually connected, which network is it connecting to?
Also have you not received any service since being there?
Regards,

It’s offering me Manx telecom or Sure if I select manual connection. But can’t actually connect to either.
but I have just had a message from Virgin saying my spending cap has been reached. I’ve logged into my account and see that for the past 3 days Virgin have been charging me for ‘using the internet in zone 1 UK’ which is out of my allowance. So you are charging me for attempting to connect to mobile data even though I can’t actually connect to any network

And no I have had no service at all since arriving. My exact same phone worked in the Isle of Man a year ago.

Thank you. My phone worked a year ago in IOM however, last time I came here.

Thank you for that information Flick43.
To confirm, have you been able to try the handset in different locations in the IOM?

Yes several different locations but it’s not working anywhere. I’ve also tried the sim in a different handset. But you appear to be charging me for roaming data despite it not working as I’ve now gone up to my spending cap

So when you tried the alternative SIM card in the handset, did that work?

No it didn’t it was exactly the same. Last night at about 11pm I suddenly got connected to a mobile network (Manx telecom) and had a connection until 10am this morning. But then it disappeared again and I now have no service at all again. So I think it is a problem with virgin roaming rather than my handset or SIM card. You have also been charging me for data when I’ve had no service which is unacceptable
