I have returned from France and my mobile network no longer works. Roaming worked fine in France, everntually. Now I am back in England, my SIM refuses to connect to virgin network. I have rebooted my phone 5 times and turned airplane mode on and off. I have tried manually selecting and automatically selecting network. Not working.

Do you have an iPhone or Android phone please?

Please try the below.
To Switch back when in the UK:
Select Apps from Home screen
Select Virgin SIM Toolkit Icon
Select Roaming
Select Mode
Select Automatic and go back to Home Screen
