Mobile hangs up after 2 hrs

I have twice been in long customer service queues (who hasn't?) and both times my phone has disconnected after 2 hrs waiting and I lose my queue place. I can never get to talk to anyone. Is this cut out after 2hrs standard? How can you get round?

Cut off is standard on some networks. It was put in place so people did not leave a call open. I know both EE and O2 do for certain 

It was put in place before the days of 2 hour queues!
