Mobile App problems

My wife has a pay as you go SIM and tops up through the virgin mobile app. Since last night she continually gets the error message (something like) “can’t authenticate your sim try again in 5 minutes”

Is this a problem with the app or are we doing something wrong

Wifi is turned off
