Is my Samsung galaxy J3 obsolete?

Since yesterday, without warning, I found I could not make or receive calls or text messages on my mobile. I phoned Virgin and they said my phone is now too old, and they suggested the only  solution is to buy a new one. I find this hard to believe, is that correct. And why no warning from Virgin that this is the case?

Absolute rubbish. Looks like someone wants to make commission. There are far older phones working happily on Virgin.

When loss of service happens it is always good to check for network problems before proceeding. As Virgin use EE for signal this is the best place to go.
