International Calling in Greece

I am currently in Kefalonia and have failed to make any outgoing calls since arriving last Thursday. I have looked on this forum and have tried every suggestion I have found and it hasn’t worked. Has anyone solved this problem?

Apologies for the issues faced, can I ask are you receiving data when being abroad?

Secondly what phone model do you have and do you have international roaming activated on it?

Hi Kain, yes we receive data and can use phones for texting, WhatsApp etc we just can’t phone out as other people have said. We have an iPhone 6 and 11. Thanks

Can you please confirm what diagnostics you've attempted at your own leisure to fix this issue?

Are you able to make calls to numbers that are currently within Greece, or does this only happen when attempting to call the UK?

Hi David, I have gone into settings and selected international calling, I have shutdown and reset numerous times, turned roaming off turned it on, changed provider from wind to vodaphone and another one. When I ring out it says the number is not recognised on this network and I should ring international directories which I did. That was a dead end. I have used the + sign to start ringing, I have used 0044 and then dropped the zero off the local dialling code.

Can you confirm that roaming was switched on before you left the UK, on both the handset and your Mobile account?

Handset yes,  and I believe I switched the roaming on and set myself up for going abroad earlier in the year when we went to Majorca

We are using an iPhone 6 (we can phone out to the uk now) and an iPhone 11, still not able to phone out

Thanks for coming back to us and sticking with us on this. There are a few more things we can try:

When putting your SIM card in to another device, are things then working or do you have the same issue?

We also need to check if the SIM toolkit as been switched on:

For an iPhone, please can you do the following: Settings > Phone > SIM Applications > Roaming > Mode > Manual > International. If you’re using a newer iOS, then you it will be under Mobile Data instead of phone. Once this has been done you might need to reboot. Let us know if this works for you. 

Finally, it might be worth trying to do another manual network search to see if you can connect to any others and see if that helps. It could be that the network you're connected too maybe doesn't have the best signal where you are. This is out of our control as we don't use our own networks outside of the UK.
