Hi, my teenage sons phone has been cut off as sim no longer supported

My sons phone has been cut off as the new sim virgin said they had sent hasn't arrived. I phoned 789  to request another one but since I forgot the security password from few years back I am locked out of making any changes like cancelling contract or requesting new sim. He really needs his phone when he goes back to school next week. Can I change to another provider as he is on a sim only 30 day rolling contract? Or do virgin expect me to inform them? stuck!! Thanks
