My contract is 32GB data, unlimited calls & unlimited texts.
One month in, and Virgin charged me an extra £4 for 8 MMS I did not send.

Common complaint and almost certainly down to your messaging application on the phone.
Some phones will either take long messages and turn them into MMS or will do the same with some emoji which lie outside of the SMS carriers set.

Thanks - seems like daylight robbery. Virgin Customer services completely ignored my support ticket. I've half a mind to go to another network that doesn't take the mickey.
I think most UK networks charge for MMS. Fairly old technology and I know 3 and O2 have said they would like an end.
Depending on the make an model of the phone you can usually prevent them from doing this.
Hi - I tried, but it appears Virgin do not permit the changing of MMSC Proxy/Port settings.
Oh well, I'll raise another support ticket for them to ignore - thanks again!
Have a Google search for 'Stop SMS going as MMS' lots of info. It all comes down to altering a particular setting in your message app. No need to touch the APN settings
