Esim on sim only plan

Hello, I’m looking to take out a new Black Friday sim only plan, I would like it to be an esim rather then a physical sim, On VM website it says you can request either a physical sim or an esim when ordering a product either online or over the phone, when I try to place an order it only gives me the option of a physical sim? seems silly to send one out if I’m not going to use it? 
So is it not possible to join on a sim only plan and have an esim sent instead of a physical one? Thanks
