Deactivated pay as you go SIM

I live in France. We have been in lockdown for ages. I may not have used my phone for a while as I have a pay as you go, and use in the uk..but havent been able to go there...but paypal requires a second verification and I have used that within the last 3 months.

Now it tells me I have lost my £30..I cant get into paypal..and nowhere on the virgin site is a sane phone number to discuss this. Surely during this crisis there must be some compassion? I cant bet into paypal to change my prefereed number..because I cant get a text.

i am just going round and round in circles with this. I need my sim reactivating and my money returning

Re: Deactivated pay as you go SIM

So it sounds like it has been disconnected for none use rather than the ongoing SIM Swap. You must make a chargeable call or text once every 90 days to keep your account active. If this happens the number is recalled and any balance forfeit.

This has been in the terms and conditions since day 1 of PAYG

Re: Deactivated pay as you go SIM

Hi MrsMoore,

Thank you for joining and posting on the Community Forum.

I'm really sorry to hear you've been going through a difficult time and for any stress that the deactivated SIM has caused.

I'm going to send you over a private message so I can take a look into your mobile account for you. Please find my message over at the purple envelope.

Thanks,

Beth

Deactivated pay as you go SIM

I live in Germany. Because of lockdown I have not made it to the UK for over a year and today I discovered that my Virgin Mobile Pay As You Go SIM has been deactivated. Although I only used it infrequently, it has been invaluable to me during my visits to England over the past ten years. Is there any way it can be reactivated (even at a cost) to work with my old Nokia 1100? – Many thanks.

Re: Deactivated pay as you go SIM

Hi there 5955martin,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forums. It's really great having you on board with us in the Community.

I'm sorry to hear that your PAYG SIM has been deactivated.

Unfortunately, in order to remain active the SIM would need to be used at least once in any 90 day period. If this time period passes then the SIM is deactivated and any credit left on the SIM will be lost too.

I know this will be unwelcome news but there is no way to reactivate it I'm afraid.

You can view this in our PAYG terms and conditions here: Terms and conditions of service - Pay As You Go Addict > Section 3.8 Keep talking!.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to get back in touch.

Thanks,

Kath_F

Re: Deactivated pay as you go SIM

Hello

Once a SIM is deactivated it cannot be reactivated, the other problem you will have is that Virginmedia no longer offer Pay As You Go SIMs, so I am afraid that the number and credit is lost. The other issue you will have is that even if a new SIM could be supplied it will only activate on the UK network and can only be sent to a UK address.

It is quite clear in the Terms and Conditions that you have to make a chargeable call or text every 90 days to keep the SIM active.

Regards Mike

Re: Deactivated pay as you go SIM

Thank you, Kath and Mike – for taking the time to answer, much appreciated. I had feared as much! I imagine many “expats” are in a similar situation. Normally, I am in the UK at least three times a year for several weeks, so I had completely forgotten about the 90-day restriction. I was always happy with the Virgin Mobile service and have relied on it for many years. Hopefully, an alternative will present itself!
