Deactivated SIM

Morning.

I am new to this community but hope someone can help. Have a new phone and rang VM on Monday to ask for a new SIM card and to renegotiate a tariff. Had an email saying new SIM on way and then lost the ability to make/receive calls and texts on existing phone with existing SIM (except for emergency calls). Rang twice on Tuesday and was told existing SIM card deactivated, asked to speak to a manager and got cut off. Five days later, no SIM card and noone at VM seems to want to help! I have sent a written complaint but can anyone suggest the best way to resolve this as l am losing the will to live when l ring up customer service! Thank you
