Connect App question, Mobile data use.

Hi, Does anyone know if after you set up the connect app on your phone you can switch mobile data off on the phone and still see and connect to VMs WiFi hot spots without further mobile data use. I also turn my mobile off at home as have a VM home phone, would this require mobile data to be turned back on the next time I turn the phone on to allow the App to reboot and sync. I ask as I am on the simply 8P PAYG tariff that has a £2 a day charge for any mobile data used, which is OK for a one off to set up as I only use WiFi data normally.
