Another user with my mobile number

I moved to Virgin and brought my number with me. But I have recently discovered that the virgin number attached to the sim is in use by another user

Yes number was ported successfully I have been using it since  the move without any problems. The number which seems to causing the problem is the one allocated to the virgin sim I received

Sorry for my confusion but I'm not sure what you mean - if you ported your number in to VM the number that was initially assigned to the SIM would be unassigned from your account, and eventually at some point be 'recycled' and go back into circulation as mobile numbers do. 

 

What problems have you experienced due to this specifically?

The number assigned to the virgin sim shows when I send a text to a new contact so must be allocated to me

On certain handsets you'll need to amend your number within the Settings menu - on iPhone's its under Settings > Phone > My Number.

 

Can you please try that and let us know if it helped?

Hello

The way that iMessage works is that it doesn't automatically update the change of phone number dynamically, so to resolve this what you have to do is -
1) Logout of your Apple ID.
2) Turn off the phone and then back on.
3) Sign back into your Apple ID.
This will force the change of phone number with iMessage and will resolve your problem.
