TiVo boxes have a 2 or 4 hour (depending on your power-saving settings) power-off with no button-presses, and it could be this kicking in.
I appreciate you've said the TiVo just exits the app and returns to live TV rather than turning off entirely, but that could just as easily be an app-limitation.
