Thanks for getting back to me. The flashing red and steady blue disappeared when I switched the cable connection to a different port on the router (seems only one was live). I still had no signal though until I switched over the DVD and TiVo HDMI input connectors on the back of the TV as advised by Virgin over the phone. I can’t pretend to understand why this worked, but it did. The box was stuck in startup for about 5 mins but then it booted right up. The connections on the TV are not as they were before I disconnected the kit but hey! -problem solved!
