Tivo & netflix

Grumps70
Tuning in

Hi

I have recently renewed my contract and now have netflix which is fine on my main tv with v6 box but the box in the bedroom is the older tivo box and is very slow with netflix/Iplayer etc.

Having another v6 box would be ideal but have no ethernet in the bedroom so would have to  rely on wi fi. I have the hub4 so would this set up speed up the netflix snail.

Any info welcome.

Regards & take care.

Another gem from offshore I'm afraid.

TiVo's are no longer available for fault replacements, I'd like to see them try.

As for the ITV Hub, it depends what you mean....

1: "ITV Hub" branding on standard ITV OnDemand programmes- TiVo does this.

2: "ITV Hub" branded app - yes, you need a V6 for this.

HI @Grumps70

As part of your recent negotiations you should have asked for a free swap to the V6.

If your new contract started within the lasy 14 days then you can cancel the new contract and renegotiate a new deal including the free box swap. It's still worth a try even it's been more than 14 days, but there may be box upgrade cost.

Otherwise you'll have to wait for a free swap to a V6 once your Tivo box stops working.

Hi Dave

Thanks for info, I will give them a call on Monday to see what can be done.

I am assuming wi fi instead of ethernet will be ok as no ethernet in that room.

Just by means of being prepared, fully expect a sales pitch on TV360 when you call to ask for a V6. Quite apart from this being a conversion rather than an upgrade (in the same way as Android is no upgrade to iOS but is fundamentally different), there are some specific issues you should be aware of.

In the TiVo/V6 ecosystem, additional multiroom boxes are fully-functional with their own hard drives - they are additional boxes.

In TV360-land, unless you're converting V6 any additional boxes are minis that don't have their own hard drives. So in your case a TiVo will be swapped for a mini, you'll lose the storage and all your recording will be on the V6. The mini will have its own OnDemand & live TV feed, but will wholly rely on the TV360-master (converted V6) for recording.

If you insist on upgrading the TiVo to a V6, then the hard drive will be retained and you will have full bidirectional multiroom streaming between the two. If you then choose to convert to TV360 later on, both V6 will be software converted and retain their HDD as TV360-master.

Your other point re WiFi - all VM TV boxes need an internet connection for VoD & streaming, Ethernet is always recommended if possible but as long as you have reliable wireless it should be fine. But as pointed out above, contract renegotiations are the perfect time to request box-swaps, so fully expect a sales pitch on TV360. Plenty of past threads on this, so be prepared.

Thanks for info. I will not go down the 360 route.I normally end up winning. I have been with them since they were NTL 25+ years. Will post result on here.

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums @Grumps70, and a very warm welcome to you!

Sorry to hear of the issues with Netflix on your second set top box.

Do you have any updates for us in regards to the call you were planning to make to our team?

Kindest regards,

David_Bn

Hi David

I called them (indian call centre)yesterday and was told they could change the box but only for the same type and not a v6 so would not be of any use. Also found out today that you need the v6 to watch itv hub. He also mentioned that as I only have netflix standard I can only watch it on one box although I can get it on the old tivo although it is very slow. Could fall asleep waiting for it to load. I think I read I can watch it on more than one box. Thanks for your interest in this.

Take care

Hi

Thanks for info on itv hub. Yes I was trying to use the app.

Looks like I will try again for another v6 box to go in the other room. Perhaps VM will read all this and send me one. Well I can dream a little.

All the best

Thank you for your response @Grumps70,

Have you been able to get back in contact with our team regarding adding an additional V6 box? If so what was discussed? Is there anything else we can help with?

Thanks,
