My TIVO box is not transmitting in 5.1 on the HD channels. It’s connected to a Sony TV that’s a year old which is further connected to a Bose 900 soundbar. Do the HD channels transmit in 5.1 or just 2.0?

Hello Danny1971.

Thanks for your post.

That's a very good question.

Most broadcasters transmit in 5.1 these days.

When you say TiVo do you mean the 360 box?

Have you tried plugging the sound bar directly into the Boc and bypassing the TV?

Thanks for the answer. The box is the V6 version. I’ve not plugged the box into the soundbar as there is only one HDMI port on there and that is for the e/arc cable to the TV so I be wouldn’t be able to see the picture on the TV.

having since looked online it appears that all the main channels only transmit in stereo and 5.1.  I’m not sure if this is correct as I can’t find anything on their respective websites.

Is there anything here or here to help ensure the set top box settings are all correct for this?

Rob

Note that some TVs will convert 5.1 received from an HDMI cable to stereo before retransmitting to the sound bar.

BBC1 and BBC2 are very occasional 5.1 otherwise 2.0 - maybe one or two programmes each day. World Cup Football is 5.1.

ITV never do 5.1.
