Poor TV Signal /pixellation

Hi guys,

Haven't posted for ages, whihc i guess is a good thing! I'm posting in the hope that and tech guy will see and check it out.

I'm getting really bad signal on several channels including CBEEBIES (711?), ITV 1SD (103) and BBC2 HD (102). This has been going on for ages but when I finally called VM 2 weeks ago they refused to send out an engineer and said it was my tv simply because he could see my box was "online and active" (it's not, I've checked other sources on the input I use for VM, VM on other inputs AND another tv, just to prove him wrong). Now, I could've told him it was online and active, seeing as I was watching one of the bad channels at the time to prove it! Even after I told him my backgroud was in electronic engineering and I done all the checks I could before ringing, he still told me it was my tv's problem!

I'm 100 sure its a dirty signal coming into the house, but HOW do i get them to fix it???

I'm paying loads every month for good internet, but a phone line we don't use and tv we ony really watch freeview on anyway. If it doesn't get fixed i'm off as soon as the contract runs out, having been with VM since 2002 when they were still Telewest!

Sorry for a bit of a rant but i need ANY help on getting them to fix what we're paying for!

Cheers

Rob.

Hi Robbijay,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am really sorry you're experiencing problems with the picture quality on your set top box.

Have you checked all the cables are securely attached and rebooted your equipment? Do you experience the problem when watching content on demand and apps such as Netflix and BBC iPlayer?

Thanks,

Re: Poor TV Signal /pixellation

HI Hetty,

Thanks for your reply

Rebooting seems to temporarily fix it for a few days until it starts getting worse again. That's a work around though, not a solution! the box is several years old and if thats the issue then VM should own up  and be replacing it! Especially as my wife is currently at home on mat leave while I'm working so i can't be expected to go home and fix it for her twice a week.  At least the work aorund will allow to watch topgear in peace next week though!

Cheers

Rob.

Re: Poor TV Signal /pixellation

Again, suffering pixellation,  checked with next door neighbor who is suffering the same.   Tried On-line to speak talk to a PERSON and after waiting nearly an hour, gave up, during this time I was also on the telephone listening to "Virginmedia" music for 50 minutes, once again gave up.

The last time I experienced this problem, it took 2 days before it was sorted.

A short while ago I took a Virgin Media Broadband package, my telephone number I had had since the beginning of the 1960's was not Ported and after nearly 2 months of back and forth communications, the answer was always   "It can't be done".

I eventually went back to "EE" who managed to retrieve my old number the next day.   It is also possible to speak to a human being in a matter of minutes when required.

Time to take my services elsewhere.

Sorry Virgin, but your Service is appalling.

Re: Poor TV Signal /pixellation

Any chance of posting what the fix for this was, for those of us with a similar issue?

Call Virgin and report your fault. Wait on here for a VM staffer to pick up your thread.

Which option is better, depends on how quickly you want your TV fault fixed and/or how co-operative the offshore-CS are feeling.

I'm a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share knowledge, I don't work for Virgin Media. Learn more

Re: Poor TV Signal /pixellation

My tv signal has been pixelating and  a buffering Break in the shows that my family are watching including channel 5 bbc 1 etc but my recordings and on demand seems to play just fine I’ve just joined virgin media for the first time and only just paid my first monthly payment which was £95 not exactly cheap for the service I’m receiving. At first I had problems with my internet dropping and now it’s the tv. I wouldn’t know About the phone as I don’t have a house phone and don’t use one, but this is just getting beyond a joke now I will be leaving if this doesn’t get resolved, I have tried rebooting the box and taking out the cables and putting them back even in a different hdmi port. Is anyone else having this problem? Many thanks for any help.

Re: Poor TV Signal /pixellation

My problem was way higher up the spectrum, around channel 601.  I think possibly as yours is way down the channel list, it could be  between cabinet and house.  Your router will be new but could be faulty.
