OK I've got the message ' Please tune to BBC News ...' . Now how do I get rid of the message so I can watch the programme?
What channel are you getting it on?
All the BBC channels are broadcasting BBC News at the moment anyway as Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away.

Assuming you're seeing this on one of the BBC/UKTV channels that's not carrying a simulcast of the BBC News channel, then it's part of the broadcast and not something Virgin Media are doing.
UK Gold and UK Gold +1.
BTW the aspect problem on Gold+1 has gone away - I can watch Gold and Gold+1 in their proper image aspect.
UKTV are adding these banners to their programming - Sky TV are also doing it on some channels.

Thank you for your post regarding the message on your TV. This was a banner added by UKTV due to the passing away of Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh.
