Pixelation

Despite an engineer visit and a replacement Tivo box, the problem with pixilation continues. Virgin are offering a V6 box with an 18 month contract. I don't want to sign up as this may not solve the problem.   Is the V6 box likely to give a more stable picture?

It depends where the fault that's causing the pixellation, is.

If the fault is in your cabling somewhere, then poor signal will still be feeding a replacement box of whatever variety. Newer klit may be more tolerant though.

If the fault is in the box, then a replacement should resolve it.

Having said that, if you're being offered a swap from a TiVo to a V6, then forget the reasons for it and grab that upgrade with both hands - assuming you're happy with the new 18month deal. The V6 runs the same software as TiVo but on much better hardware - it's an upgrade in every sense and I'd thoroughly recommend you take it.
