Cant view tivo recordings

Tried to watch a recording on my tivo which told me I can't watch it because syfy+1 is no longer available

Don't understand its a recording why should the fact that +1 has been removed make any difference to a recording I made months ago

Is there a work around this problem or is it just another reason to think about leaving virgin media

When channels are removed or closed, the hidden EPG metadata which enables recordings to still work is retained for a period of time precisely to allow programmes to be viewed in a sensible timescale.

SyFy+1 closed back in March IIRC, so a 6month timescale - which is quite common in this scenario - would fall around about now.

There is no way of viewing those recordings now.

You are watching (for the most part) subscription channels. When they have been withdrawn you effectively lose the right to watch anything recorded from them as VMs agreement with the broadcaster also includes any recordings on their equipment. Recordings are for timeshifting purposes only, so these agreements may give you a while to watch anything you recorded.

I appreciate what you are saying about subscription but the recording was made on syfy+1 and I still pay subscription to syfy. And had no prior warning that +1 was going or that would not be able to watch recordings after a while

Hi Matt69,

Thanks for your post and apologies to hear you have been unable to watch some recordings made on a channel we no longer provide.

We understand this must be frustrating however there isn't anything we can do to allow the recordings to be watched now. Since the channel is no longer provided by Virgin Media, as mentioned above, once the 6 month time limit has passed, the recordings do become unwatchable.

We announced back in March that the channel would be removed both on the channel and notifications. We can only apologise if you were unaware of this.

If there is anything else we can do to help, please let us know.

Thanks,

I wish it was Syfy+ that I had lost, I've lost BBC recordings! Have avoided asking for upgraded box/countract (paying a fortune) because of recorded material.bbc1.jpg

Your recordings look to be from BBC 1 SD. The SD versions of the channels were removed by the BBC from Virgins service over 12 months ago, hence the metadata maintaining the recordings for viewing has also now expired. You might as well delete them.

As stated previously, the recordings on Virgin boxes are licenced for time shifted viewing purposes only.
