Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

Here’s a WiFi Speedtest from December when I still had VIVID 150.

165mbps download speeds:ED455145-96FA-40C8-ACEC-2F85B8A67D83.png

Now that I’ve upgraded to VIVID 350 it maxes out at 190mbps on homeplug WiFi.

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

An individual 165Mbps Speedtest proves little. Your 190Mbps is consistent with your 350Mbps download speed and the laws of physics. You will be disappointed if you think you'll get 350Mbps or more from homeplugs. The only reliable way to get good speeds far from your hub is with an Ethernet cable and a suitable wireless access point.

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

It wasn’t a one off, I regularly got WiFi speeds at or near the advertised 150.

I’m not wanting or expecting it to exceed 350 now, I’m just curious as to why it’s hitting a ceiling of 190 with a 350mb broadband package when previously it would get to the advertised speed regularly when I was on vivid 150.

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

Im not sure how you are not getting this, you could have 100000000000000mb internet but your home plugs are too slow to pass more than 190.

165mb is lower than the 190 limit your homeplugs can run at

I do get what you’re saying but where is your evidence that homeplugs don’t go above 190mbps? I’ve never seen anything to suggest that 190 is the max. If you can point me to some evidence of that then please do so.

The devolo homeplug I have is capable of up to 1200mbps - that’s a theoretical speed I know, but I would not expect 190mbps to be the limit.

Well if you read this review of the devolo magic 2, which is the model above mine with theoretical speeds up to 2,400mbps, the reviewers achieved 456mbps when the adapters were placed in the same room as each other: https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/review/powerline-adapters/devolo-magic-2-wifi-powerline-mesh-wi-fi-rev...

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

If av1200 powerlines get 190 it's quite probable that av2400 get 190x2= 380mb.

Again around 10-20% of advertised speed

But at those prices I'd go mesh

True. Would you not recommend the devolo magic 2 as it has mesh with a powerline backbone?

The virgin powerlines or 'boosters' actually have mesh technology and work well, I've never seen a av2400 powerline in real life but sounds promising.
