Scam, as evidenced by the gmail address and the untrustworthy hyperlink to a Google sites address. Check through the regular 'Latest Phishing News' updates at the top of the 'Security Matters' forum for other examples which follow a similar theme.

Genuine emails I get are either from virginmedia.co.uk or virginmedia.com, so be extra vigilant if you get something different.
