New style SIM roll out

Hi, I received a message that new SIM cards will be sent out soon. I am abroad so will not be able to get mine for quite some time. When does Virgin plan to switch off the old ( original ) ones? Thanks

Technology moves on, you have to adapt.

Re: New style SIM roll out

Thanks - that's a lot  more information than Virgin managed to give me. I can't be the only user who is going to be away from the UK for quite some time....

not when they are well into their 80's, are vulnerable and have to stay indoors seeing no one. virgin have messed this one up. timing is completely wrong. easier for them to change provider.

Re: New style SIM roll out

The SIM Migrations have been going on for the last couple of years, and were stopped earlier this year due to the Covid-19 situation. However Virgin have to complete the changes ahead of the new agreement with Vodafone starting

https://www.virginmedia.com/corporate/media-centre/press-releases/virgin-media-and-vodafone-strike-n...

As the EE versions of the SIMs simply will not work on the Vodafone radio network, if Virgin Media didn't restart the swaps, the EE SIMs would still stop working when the migration to the Vodafone radio network happened.

Doing them now allows for any issues with the swaps to be resolved before customers start getting moved between networks.

Re: New style SIM roll out

As the current deal with EE runs out at the end of 2021 there is no need for a panicky move to a new provider - which will require a new SIM card.

The contract with EE network agreement may end in 2021, that doesn't mean that Virgin Media aren't wanting all EE hosted SIMs to be swapped before then.
