Cable spec - moving router and TiVo box closer to internal box

Hi, when we had virgin installed our router and TiVo box were situated on the opposite side of the room to where the internal box is so a long wire/cable pinned to the wall was required.

We have since moved the router and TiVo box to the corner of the room where the internal box is located so we now have a lot of excess wire/cable.

I’ve spoken to virgin and they’ve said I can either get a technician to come round to change the wire (at a cost of around £90), tie up the excess cable (this is what I’m currently doing), or buy a replacement cable myself. Would anyone know what spec the cable is that I need to purchase and any recommendations on the best place to get it?

Thanks

Hello

I am afraid that the information regarding buying your own cable is wrong, you can only use cable that is supplied by VM to reduce the distance as per the T&C's, how long of a cable are you looking for ?

Re: Cable spec - moving router and TiVo box closer to internal box

Hi Mike, it only needs to be about 1m long (probably shorter), do you know if there is there a way I can get it delivered from VM?

You may be able to get the cables from a QuickStart kit sent out, but my worry is how much cable has been removed as anything in excess of 5 metres could require a signal adjustment.

Thanks nodrogd, it will probably be more than 5m shorter as it was pinned along 3.5m wall and around a doorframe previously

One possibility is to reinstate the hub, at least you'll reduce the excess cabling by half.

Hi Roger_Gooner, how would I go about achieving that?

I meant putting it back in its original place unless there's now a good reason to keep it where it is.

That's not an option, where the TV and router used to be is now a play area/toy storage, they were moved to keep the kit safe from small hands!
