When I try watching a recording on my iPad I get the message, “only available at home”. Both the tv box ( latest version with voice control) and iPad are connected to Virgin wifi. Same happened when box was on Ethernet.

I'm also sorry to hear you've encountered this problem when trying to stream a recording to your iPad.
Are both the iPad and app up to date with the latest versions of software? Please try deleting/re-adding the app if this is still ongoing - and let us know if this is impacting other devices too if possible?
Can I ask whether this error pops up on all recordings or just some? Do you get it when you're watching live content? I ask because some content, depending on the licencing we have with the broadcasters, there may be restrictions on the the platform.
