Re: Web safe

Was not aware that ISPs were able to filter search engine results.

See if this is of help Filter explicit results using SafeSearch

Nor was I and a quick Google brings up two reviews of the "Sky Broadband Shield" which say it does not block explicit images in the search results:

Re: Web safe

I had Sky Boadband until last week and I was using Sky Broadband shield, I can ensure you 100% that it was blocking keywords. I added porn as a keyword and it was preventing google images from showing porn images! I used it for 2 years with no issues. Now I just switched to Virgin and I cannot prevent google from showing porn images!

Re: Web safe

Found a mention for this feature here Sky Broadband Shield but without further explanation of use / workings:

Out of curiosity, did you install additional software to make use of Safe Search with Sky and where were the keywords, like porn, set?

Re: Web safe

Hi, No I did not install any additional software. The broadband shield was blocking automatically explicit contents out of search engine like google. Safesearch is active automatically once you activate the sky shield.

In the Sky broadband shield setting, you can decide to block website by domain or there is also the possibility to block specific words as well.

Re: Web safe

The safe search in sky broadband shield was also active in incognito mode.

Re: Web safe

I am guessing that Sky are pointing DNS lookups for google.{com | uk | … } to the IP Address returned for forcesafesearch.google.com thus enforcing the use of safe search; Sky are not filtering the results but relying on the search provider's existing filtering functionality. NB it is likely use of other search engines would return results not so strictly filtered.

BTW, Web Safe also remains unaffected by incognito mode

Re: Web safe

I will raise this with the forum team who are best placed to answer that question however be aware it can take them a few days to respond.

BTW, if you are using the Virgin Media Hub in modem mode with your own router that allows DNS to be set then an alternative DNS to block content can be used, for example:

NB: There are other similar services available from other providers. Do read their terms of service and privacy statements.
