Blocking YouTube app

Hi

Has there been any progress on blocking the YouTube app with a parental code or being able to remove it completely?  I really don’t want my children having free access to it when I’ve spent literally hours setting up controls for all other devices!

Re: Blocking YouTube app

Hello

Are you talking about the youtube app on the Virginmedia TV boxes ? If so then you cannot remove it or even block it I am afraid that there is no solution that Virginmedia can offer.

You can try this but there is no guarantee that it will work as this  may be a workaround, this may only work with a v6 if you have a Tivo then it will not work at all,  as the Tivo uses an inbuilt modem for YouTube.

From a cmd prompt on your PC or Laptop, ping youtube.com and note IP address

Login to the Virgin Hub: 192.168.0.1 from your browser

Goto>connected devices>note the IP address of the Tivo box

Goto>Advanced settings>Security>Port Filtering

Setup a new rule:

Source IP address = IP address of the Tivo box

Destination IP = IP address of youtube.com

Protocol = All

Ports = All

Enabled = Yes

This may work.

There was an update to that a while ago and you can now PIN protect the YouTube app on the V6, but not on the older TiVo box unfortunately (as far as I know).

It's also not possible yet on the 360 box.

Re: Blocking YouTube app

Hello

Thanks very much for your reply.  My TIVO box says Hub 3.0 on the side, does this mean it's too old?  If so, do you know if I would be able to swap it for a Version 6?

Best wishes

Eleanor

Hello

If you look at these pictures

Tivo

and v6

If you have the first one then that fix will not work if you have the 2nd then the  fix may work.

The Hub 3 is the box that gives you the internet.

Hello

Then I am afraid that the work around I post will not work, there is nothing else I can suggest.
