speed down 50%

Good morning,

A few days ago there were a couple of outages totaling 68minutes. On reconnection my IP address changed, I understand that can happen.

My connection was 500Mbs, received an email advising was being upgraded to 600Mbs. Now the speed is typically 300Mbs. Also on youtube starting to buffer.

Can 150 auto test ran advising problem with hub (hub3) rebooted carried out tested later in the day. No change.

Few days later called 150 again, auto test ran and still advise HUB problem,

Sayed on the phone or 1 hour and 2 minutes only or the system to hang up. Currently 48 minutes into second call

Hub status light appears to be RED, if I'm interpreting correctly means over heating!

Is this a fire risk, Both my wife and I are seventy, in these challenging times we are very reliant on the internet to stay in touch.

Re: speed down 50%

Are you in Router Mode or Modem Mode ?

In Modem Mode the power light should be magenta.

In Router Mode the power light should be white.

In either Mode the red power light is an indication of over heating and most not be ignored.

Ensure that the Hub is in a well ventilated area and nothing is blocking the vent holes on the sides of the Hub.

If the Hub is in a clear area and is cool to touch it must be replaced.

If the Hub is in a clear area and is hot to touch it must be replaced.

Do not be fobbed off with "if it is cool it will be OK" or "Just blow a fan over it", this is dangerous advice.

When you go out or retire for the night ensure that the Hub is unplugged from the mains.

The only fix is a replacement Hub.

You can either phone in (08:00 is the best time) or wait on here for a few days (6 to 7 days average) until one of the VM Forum Staff comes along.

If you wait on here Do Not bump the thread it will put it further down the VM 'to do list'.

Re: speed down 50%

Thanks for the reply it is in modem mode. Could possibly be magenta. Though took a second opinion and the wife says red.

It is a well ventilated "extract fan" media cupboard. Temperature at extract fan never peaks above 25 degC, temperatures record by Draytek 2927 router.

Does not feel excessively hot!

Spent 1 hour and 3 minutes on hold on 150 help number at which point disconnected.

Ignoring a famous saying repeating an experiment and expecting a differing result is the definition o foolish

I repeated the call to 150 and at 1 hour 3 minutes disconnected.

Re: speed down 50%

Drop the Hub into Router Mode for a few minutes and check the base light colour.

Re: speed down 50%

What speeds do you get at >> speedtest.net << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better ethernet cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Re: speed down 50%

I have a unit which connects directly to the Dray Tek router. Runs speed test 4 times a day, can also manually initiate test. Prior to change of IP address and outage average speed was above 500Mbs. All cabling is cat6. No other user online.

Dray tek 2927 is rated or 1Gb on wan side

Also logged into hub its running Docsis30 I believe 3.1 is the faster version

Re: speed down 50%

Until you speed test the Hub directly you can't prove whether the problem is the WAN supply or the Dray Tek slowing things down.

Which VM Hub are you using ?

Re: speed down 50%

Hub 3 isn't capable of DOCSIS 3.1, only the Hub 4 can use it.

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then Advanced Settings > Tools > Network Status.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.
