Was on Hub3 (500Mb), was great. They upgraded me to 1Gb and sent Hub4 - Lucky if I get 100Mb now!

RFC1795
Tuning in

Sorry if this is a long post, I'm trying to provide as much background and info in the hope that someone might help figure out what the issue is here.

As the subject says, I was on a  Hub3 modem, for years prior to that the Hub2/Superhub, I upgraded my package to 500Mbs some time ago, and they sent the Hub 3, which went well, and I was happy with what I was getting.(Around 550Mb down.) Then I got sent a new Hub4 and told I was being upgraded without cost to the 1Gb package. (Note: I have always used modem mode with my own router.)

When I was forced to change to the Hub4 I managed to get around 700Mb for about 2-3 days, then it noped out at around 100 on other days. I did the signed in virginmedia online tests for problems in area/hub. On the various times I did this, at first it mentioned no problem in the area, but on performing the actual test, it said there was a problem in the area and technicians are working hard hat sorting the problem type message. So, I figured I'd just leave it for a while as there might be a problem. It has been weeks now. And today when I ran the same test, it said it looks like I need to reboot the hub, which I've done... and it looks to be even worse now. Currently, 2.9Mbps down, 3.36Mbps up ... see attached image of recent speedtests (Note the 2 at the bottom, this is when I was on my backup 4G connection at the time. I bring up the 4G connection if my main Virgin connection drops.) Speedtests 2022-12-07 170937.png(I've rebooted the hub 4 so many times already over the past few weeks, including my router.)

I have a 10dB attenuator that they put on my cable line many years ago, I have tried with and without the attenuator attached, with little difference.

My router shows my port speed is currently at 1 Gbps connected to the hub, and I have replaced the ethernet cable during these issues to confirm that wasn't the issue.

Nothing on my LAN side has changed, and I've been doing these tests from my wired laptop all these times in the past.

I have also run some tests direct from the router CLI:

RFC1795
Tuning in

I managed to get onto the Hub4 earlier today after a reboot, usually, it just times out to 192.168.100.1, but sometimes I get lucky after a reboot. (Never had this issue with the Hub3)

Anyhow, here's all the information I gathered from the hub now, hopefully means something to someone in the know:

I'm not sure what other information to provide, but if anyone needs more info or has some ideas, then let me know. I'm really not keen to put the Hub back into non-modem mode just to test, as I think everything as it is now, should be getting me upwards of 600Mbps, and connection for work matters, I need to be online.

Thanks for reading if you got this far! 😅

RFC1795
Tuning in

UPDATE: Okay, so I decided to let my router run over my backup connection, disconnected ethernet to hub4 and did a factory reset. Connected my laptop to the hub4 using the same cable. Did some tests, and everything was fast as to be expected from 1Gbs service, did the samknows speed tests, everything looked good. I changed hub4 back to modem mode, reconnected everything as before... and, speeds are fine again. I don't get it 🙄 .... hopefully, it stays this way, as when I first got the hub4, it was fast and normal for about 2 days then played up.

If it slows down again, I'll be back to this post, or make a new one.
