WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

Hi

Broadband is great when it works and like toothache when it doe not.

I am currently paying £67 a month for a 500meg service(or not as in my case). My family with 2 children trying to home-school during lockdown that experience consistently 3 times a day a complete drop of connection.

I thought i would be proactive and bought a great new router (ASUS RT-AC66U) and set the hub 3.0 as a modem. The router is great but the hub 3.0 is still restarting 3 times a day.

Customer Service is non existent!

So I thought I would post a message on here in the vane hope that someone in Virgin land hears me.

My new router says "Feb 5 11:42:34 WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly."

My hub3.0 says:

Re: WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

In addition to the log that you've already posted, could you post the tables from the upstream and downstream tabs.. you will probably have to split this over two posts.. may as well repost the log as well - see if there's anything else in there.

you've got a bunch of t3 timeouts and i believe (though I'm very much an amateur with this stuff) that the RCS partial service message indicates that one (or maybe more?) of the channels is dropping out of sync/service.

you've made the right decision in buying your own wifi gear, unfortunately, though, if the underlying connection is bad no 3rd party router is gonna fix it..

it's also worth setting up a BQM and posting the "live link" back here - make sure you choose the "sharing link" which will remove your public ip address from the image..

post up the stats and let's have a look..

Re: WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

I would disregard @legacy1 's suggestion for now.

Looking at the log you are showing multiple RCS Partial Service errors and Loss of Sync signals.  In short, the DHCP message is a red herring.  It's the underlying connection that's at issue.

Please follow @tehwolf 's advice and post your power levels.

The Forum Team will get to the post but it can take a few days to do so.

Re: WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

Thanks for the replies I have had so far.

I did eventually manage to get through to the virgin support team who have tried various things in the last 30 hours some which seem to have worked. I did ask them what they had tried but they said  it was company policy not to give out that sort of information. They said they would monitor the situation and send an engineer if the problem did not rectify itself. the connection has been up for over 20 hours now so fingers crossed.

Thanks again for any advice given it is appreciated. I will post my Downstream & Upstream data if the problem of connection reoccurs.

Thanks

@properpanda

I'm glad it seems to be working for you now, but would you humour us and post the stats anyway?

Re: WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.

for Ravenstar68

The engineer from VM came around today through the snow.

And...

We worked through the problem of my broadband connection and narrowed it down to ...

DAMP!

Yes folks DAMP. it seems that my connection through the wall had corroded causing a fluctuation in signal strength due to water short circuit.

So look out for this as a possible solution to your own issue. If you have one.

Thanks and good night. End Thread.
