Upload speeds horrible - would upgrade to 350Mbps plan help?

Hi all

I am on a 100Mbps plan which in the good times gets me about 9Mbps upload.  Unfortunately with all the work from home congestion on the network I am now getting circa 0.5Mbps upload if I am lucky so keep getting thrown off my work remote server.  Making working from home very tricky.

If I move to a 350Mbps plan, would the upload pipe open up a little and increase my upload speed so I can work?  It is an extra £25 a month but if it stops me pulling out what little hair I have left it will be worth it.

Download speeds a fine so no issues there.

Re: Upload speeds horrible - would upgrade to 350Mbps plan help?

hi

download packages do change your upload speeds yes

50mbps tends to give 6mbps upload

100mbps is 10-12mbps

200mbps is 20-24mbps

350mbps is 36mbps roughly

500mbps is 52mbps roughly

so if its a higher upload speed your after then an increase on downstream will do that.

hope this helps if so kudos the post

Thanks Jamie34 but as I am supposed to be getting 10-12Mbps but am only getting 0.5Mbps, does that mean an upgrade to the 350 package which is supposed to bring 3x the upload speed would then only get me to 1.5mbps when the network is congested?

Re: Upload speeds horrible - would upgrade to 350Mbps plan help?

The short of it is no, it won't improve your speed if you aren't already hitting the speeds you're provisioned.

Given the high numbers of slow uploads posts around, and the fact you can be pretty sure VM won't be doing any network upgrades for it (because they'll wait till everyone goes back to work for the load to ease) if you want more reliable uploads you'll need to change to a different provider.

Ah. Pulled the trigger on the upgrade. Will have to cancel it then. Thanks.
