Upload speeds and hub restarts

Hi everyone.

I've been experiencing some oddities with my connection over the past few weeks and would be grateful for any help.

Earlier this month (11/04), the hub restarted twice in the morning at approximately 9am and then again just before midday. This has happened a few times since and while the download speeds remain good (approximately 100Mb), the upload speed (10Mb) seems to suffer during the evenings. The connection has been very good over the past few years but the upload speed isn't as consistent as it used to be.

I've also noticed that the downstream Channel IDs now run from channels 17 to 40 whereas I remember them being 1 to 24 with lower frequencies. Channels 22 to 24 also seems to have a significantly higher number of Pre-RS errors - is this acceptable?

Around the time this started to happen, I noticed that there as a Virgin Media engineer visiting a neighbour. Could it be possible that work was done in the cabinet which has affected my connection? For instance, I may have been connected to a different tap?

I have a Hub 3 with a 6dB forward path attenuator attached.The tests below were done with a wired connection with the Hub running in Modem Mode. The same performance is observed when the Hub is in Router Mode and a separate router is not being used. No other device was using the connection during the speed tests.

Your router stats look fine but you have a lot of errors in your network log. Your BQM shows some load on the network as well which could be slowing things down.

I'd start by a full reset of the router to clear the errors and see how quickly they return. Hold in the pinhole at the rear of the router for at least 50 seconds and then release (the lights will flash while holding in the pinhole reset button after about 10-15 seconds) then allow 5 minutes for the router to reboot and re-sync the connection.

I was hoping that one of the Virgin Media staff would be able to look at my connection.

I've been been waiting patiently for 3 weeks and haven't replied because I thought I would be put at the back of the queue. However, it appears there are quite a few recent posts which have have responses from them much sooner so I'm not so sure about the order of the queue.

I have indeed tried a reset of the hub but it hasn't improved the situation. The slow upload speeds are more common at peak times, especially at the weekends so I'm guessing its an area over-utiisation issue or an intermittent SNR fault.

The power levels and SNR values are similar to before, there are some more post-RS errors and a few more T3 timeouts. I can re-post all of the details if that would be helpful.

Judging by your BQM you do have over utilization, as for Virgin staff not responding, that I have no control over. I think when they see over utilisation they avoid it as there is nothing much they can do about it apart from give possible fix dates and then usually keep moving them forward, although that's not fact but rather just my opinion. Hopefully they will be along shortly.

Apologies that we have taken a little bit of time to get back to you! I've had a look at your account, and I can't see any known issues or faults in your area. Can I just confirm if you are running the Hub in router or modem mode? If you could re-post the details, that would be helpful, so that we can take a closer look at this for you.

Thank you for your reply. It's good to hear there are no known faults in the area. The slow uploads generally occur in the evenings and the weekends, if that helps.

The current BQM does look better.
