I'm new here and we are recent converts to cable broadband since it was installed in our area.
When I did the order which was through the chat service (that I now can't seem to access to ask a question) the sales agent told me to check our upload capability with a website called speedtest.net.
He then told me that when we had our installation, the upload speed, which is important to us, and was why we joined Virgin in the first place, would double from the 10 mbps or so which was showing on our old DSL line, to be around 20 mbps.
I have tested it a few times using speedtest.net and it comes out at around 10mbps. This is very disappointing, we thought we had the fastest broadband available and I am rather cross that the speed that was promised is not there. Nobody likes being duped. We want to do live streaming from home and this was the reason we switched over from DSL.
This week we went out to the pub which is the venue for our jazz club, where we plan to livestream. We connected to the wifi, which was just the consumer router, and I ran speedtest.net there too. The upload speed was huge, about 190 mbps, and again I wondered why, when I had been told that our cable broadband was the fastest available, we were getting such rubbish speeds, even when connected through ethernet.
Can anyone shed any light on this please? I would like to ask Virgin operatives directly as well, and I will call 150 to do so, but I wondered if any other users had similar experiences.
it is the bigger oomph bundle, the M200 one. I realise this is not the fastest that Virgin do, but we were promised 20 mbps and this is what it says on their speed list, so I'm confused as to why the upload speed is only half that.
Could you access your router using http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.100.1 for modem mode . You shouldn't need log in, select the 'Check Router Status' option and paste your 'Downstream', 'Upstream', and 'Network Log' tabs?
We can have a look for any oddities in the stats.
It would also be worth posting the 'Configuration' tab data to confirm what speed your HUB is configured for.
