Upload speed dire..

So we have had VM broadband for many years and 6 months ago we moved 300 metres up the road. This property had VM broadband already when we moved in.

Long story short, our upload speed is dire. Today its been about 0.1Mbps and in fact some of the day it failed to register at all. Download is absolutely fine at approx. 210Mbps.

Virgin Media have replaced the ONU, the fibre between the cabinet and the house and the 'super' hub 3 three times. Nothing has made any difference whatsoever and despite sending multiple engineers nothing has changed and if anything it has gotten worse.

Video calls and screen sharing are impossible, which of course nobody is doing right now!

Just for information, these speeds are achieved via LAN cable and also via mesh WiFi. The speeds are very similar, however the upper limit of about 0.6Mbps achieved via cable.

To add to the complexity the last engineer to come out was jokingly talking about the 10Gig trial which took place round here about 18-24 months ago (not a huge success) which has apparently 'obliterated the upload performance'.

I have just set up a think broadband monitor but I'm a bit stumped as to what to do now. We live miles from the BT exchange and as such they don't present much of a suitable alternative.

Please help! What do I do next?

Re: Upload speed dire..

Can you please upload your router stats and set up a BQM

Type 192.168.0.1 or (192.168.100.1 if you have your Hub in Modem mode) into your address bar at the top of your browser

Do NOT log in, just click “Check Router Status” at the bottom of the page. Sometimes the “Check Router Status” is missing, in this case just go ahead and log in and go to Advanced Settings-> Tools-> Network Status.

Please copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs, if you get a yellow warning just click the Post button again.

Do not try to fit everything in one post! You can use more than one post for each item if needed!

If you get a warning when you hit “Post” just hit “Post” again and it should work ok!

Please do not use screenshots

Also can you please setup a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com. Just click on Create a new monitor.

Under your graph you just created Click (Share Live Graph)

Copy the text in the “Direct Link” box and paste it on here

Your upload streams are on the wrong modulation and should be 64 QAM plus you have too many T3 Timout errors. This could be a sign of a line fault but you would still need an engineer visit to put right. Best to ring Virgin on or just after 8am on 0345 454 1111 or alternatively you can wait here for a Virgin staff member to pick it up, but unfortunately this will typically be between 5-10 days, sometimes sooner, sometimes later depending on how busy they are. If you decide to call it in it will run through a few automated options and after that ring back again and it should recognise that you have rang previously and then put you in the queue for a Virgin representative 🙂

Re: Upload speed dire..

Yeah, your BQM is also showing packet loss and would indeed need looking into to.

Re: Upload speed dire..

Thanks - I've had three engineers out - but I've had no success - is there something specific I need to ask for?

Cheers for your help!

Not really, just explain what's been happening and hopefully they will get to the bottom of it. Could be anything at this stage, cable replacement, adjustment at the cabinet. Who knows but unfortunately sometimes it can take time and multiple visits to get it narrowed down to a specific problem.

Re: Upload speed dire..

HI @tomcepinnock

Thank you so much for your post and I am so sorry this has been an ongoing issue.

I've had a look into your account and I can see that there do appear to be some issues which would be best investigated by an engineer. I'd be happy to book an appointment for you, I will send you a PM so we can arrange this. Please keep an eye out for the purple envelope in the top right corner of your profile to alert you to a new message.

Thank you.
