Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

Hi

Been on M200 and always had constant 220Mbps in speedtest.  Router in modem mode into Asus RT-AC1200G+ and cable connection to main PC.

Got upgraded to M500 and have seen my upload speed jump up to a constant 37 Mbps which I am delighted with.  However, the download seems to have dropped to 150/160Mbps fairly constant

Can anyone help me with this?  I used to max the 220 Mbps on even my 5G wifi devices.

Have set up the ThinkBroadband thing

Re: Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

Your BQM even in its infancy is showing dropped packets.

Your Hub stats look OK.

I take it your speed test has been done through your Asus RT-AC1200G+  ?

Can you do a couple using a direct connection with a Cat 5E/6 cable between the Hub and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other items connected ?

Re: Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

Bizarrely, when I take the cable from the virgin router and plug it direct into the PC (intel I211 gigabit card), it shows no internet.  Have tried this with both my PC and my work laptop

Yet I plug the same cable into the asus router and pc into the asus router it all works fine.

Do you think I should take the virgin out of modem mode back to router mode and set back?  Very confusing

In Modem Mode you only have one active ethernet port on the Hub.

Re: Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

Sorry, I think I've confused myself

I run it in modem mode, that one port from the virgin box I put into the ASUS and do everything from the ASUS (albeit with recent speed issues since I went up to M500)

As per your suggestion, I took the cable from the virgin box in modem modem out of the ASUS and straight into a PC and my laptop, but they can't get an IP when I do this (bizarrely).  Put that cable back into the ASUS and ASUS to PC/laptop both fine

I'm going to take the virgin box back to router mode and retest

Re: Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

OK.

Until the speed at the Hub is known we can't really do any troubleshooting.

I will expect the change from Modem to Router Mode to show as a full height red band on the BQM.

Leave the connections as they are and go back to Modem Mode, and reboot the PC into Safe Mode with Networking and run speed tests again.

Re: Upgraded to M500 from M200, speed went down o.O

so put it straight back into modem mode, and full speed

https://i.imgur.com/yhu6sL5.png

So modem mode - slow, back to router mode fast, back to router mode fast

Will now connect the asus back up and see how it reacts
