Unstable broadband after upgrading to Hub 3.0

Recently, I received Hub 3.0 to replace my old router. I have tried everything from resetting the router, checking the cabling, identifying black spots using the app. In one of the rooms, I have connection that is very unstable. Every few minutes the connection becomes unstable with speeds dropping or sometimes wifi just snaps.

I have reviewed other posts in this forum where people have faced similar problems. As per the suggestions in the previous forum, I am copying my router status messages for expert help. Thanks.

Re: Unstable broadband after upgrading to Hub 3.0

What speed do you get at >> speedtest.net << using a direct connection using a Cat 5E/6 cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Re: Unstable broadband after upgrading to Hub 3.0

Looking at those speeds I will say you are on a 100Mbs contract, is that correct ?

If you are on 100Mbs; VM are upholding their part of the contract and you have a Wi-Fi problem.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The problem with Wi-Fi is that it can be brilliant at breakfast time and useless by lunchtime and you haven't changed anything, BUT, something, somewhere has changed, then you can spend hours and even days trying to find a fix for something that can be totally out of your control.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you remove all the internal walls, water, electronic and electrical devices, metallic pipes and conduits and wrap the whole building in a thick lead shield you will have a good chance of getting decent Wi-Fi from an ISP Hub.

Just a few things that can affect Wi-Fi in the average home …

Mirrors, furniture, fish tanks, people, radiators, walls (some more than others), cordless phones, baby monitors, microwave ovens, fridges & freezers, TVs, next doors Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi equipment, DAB transmitters, the list is endless.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many people have accepted that the VM Wi-Fi is poor and have purchased third party equipment that is much, much more powerful than the VM supplied kit and once set up have wondered why they waited for so long.

Re: Unstable broadband after upgrading to Hub 3.0

Based on your comments, i have couple of further questions:

1) Nothing changed in my home setting except upgrading from Hub 2 to Hub 3. Why is Hub 3 more unstable and has poor wifi signals? Are there known issues with the hardware/ firmware of Hub 3.0?

2) Is there a way to revert to Hub 2.0 again?

3) What 3rd party equipment would you recommend? Please suggest some options.
