Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

I have been experiencing terrible bit rates streaming to YouTube via obs for about a month now.

everything points to Virgin Media Broadband as the connection is stable using my phones hotspot and also using an alternative ISP at another address.

Virgin media sent and engineer and he didn't have a clue what he was doing. I was promised a call back about getting this sorted but the call never came. its a nightmare trying to speak to someone on the phone and when I do they are clueless.

why am I paying for a service I can't use and Virgin aren't interested in fixing.

I've read multiple other posts here with the same issue and as far as I can tell VM haven't addressed it.

please help me fix this problem as its driving me insane.

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

Setup BQM and see if it spikes as you stream
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality

The steaming can be to do with Youtube servers not able to handle all the traffic so what upload speed you get from a speed test?

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

As I said the connection is fine using my phone as a hotspot or another ISP at another address, so its not the YouTube servers. Its not OBS or MacOS either as I've reinstalled both.

Virgin engineer was as useful as a chocolate fireguard...promised a call back but didn't get one.

id ditch virgin in a heartbeat but there's literally no competition until city fibre go life in a couple of months.

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

Been streaming via my phones personal hotspot (virgin phone funnily enough) and the bitrate is rock solid. No dropped frames at 8000kbps which is the max speed i can get on 4G here.

Switch back to Virgin Broadband with the same settings and it returns to being all over the place...finger is pointing to Virgin BB.

Is there a fix for this?

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

Once again the connection fell apart last night and I had to stream via my phones hotspot which was rock solid.

Technical Support don’t seem to be interested as I’m being pass about on the phone to everyone and their dog.

Whats going on with this?

£62 a month for a service that doesn’t work.

How does one make a formal complaint?

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

I have a test stream to youtube at 2500 Kbps and is stable so likely a area issue to youtube CDN.

Have you setup a BQM to see if your latency is stable?

Have you done a speed test?

Run CMD and
ping -n 200 a.rtmps.youtube.com
to see if you get dropped packets as your streaming

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

speedtest reports back expected speed. OBS still dire.

i dont know how to read the graph of bqm

ping test reports 5% packet loss

Re: Unstable Bitrate Streaming To Youtube via OBS

Do you get packet loss to 194.168.4.100 ? as that would suggest a problem with your Docsis line.
