Speed suddenly halved since Monday morning

Hi All,

Having previously had a lot of issues that were finally confirmed as line/engineering problems I keep a close eye on speed etc. All ways checking on an ethernet connection.

Got a 200mb package and since the problems were fixed about 4 months ago get consistent 108 to 215 download and 19 to 20 upload speeds. Same reading first thing Monday then dropped to 75 to 80 download, but with a consistent 20 upload.

Restarted hub (with a 5 minute wait) but no change. Hub stats all look OK with no issues. It is as if I've just been switched to a slower speed.

South East London DA5 area. No issues reported by VM in the area.

Anyone else found similar or know what is going on?

Mark

Re: Speed suddenly halved since Monday morning

Have you tried a full factory reset? Hold in the pinhole at the rear of the router for at least 50 seconds and then release (the lights will flash while holding in the pinhole reset button after about 10-15 seconds) then allow 5 minutes for the router to reboot and re-sync the connection.
Please ensure that your WiFi network password is still readable on the Hub sticker before you do this or that you at least have a copy of your original network password.

Can you please upload your router stats and set up a BQM

Type 192.168.0.1 or (192.168.100.1 if you have your Hub in Modem mode) into your address bar at the top of your browser

Do NOT log in, just click “Check Router Status” at the bottom of the page. Sometimes the “Check Router Status” is missing, in this case just go ahead and log in and go to Advanced Settings-> Tools-> Network Status.

Please copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs, if you get a yellow warning just click the Post button again.

Do not try to fit everything in one post! You can use more than one post for each item if needed!

If you get a warning when you hit “Post” just hit “Post” again and it should work ok!

Please do not use screenshots

Also can you please setup a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com. Just click on Create a new monitor.

Under your graph you just created Click (Share Live Graph)

Copy the text in the “Direct Link” box and paste it on here

Re: Speed suddenly halved since Monday morning

OK an update.

I ran a speed test on my phone using wifi and got a faster speed than the ethernet connection on my PC!

Checked again all ethernet connections were sound and found no problems and no improvements.

Restarted the Hub again with everything disconnected and then reconnected the ethernet cables one at a time once the Hub was back up and running.

Speeds are now testing as normal again, 212 download and 21 upload.

Happy, but none the wiser as to what the problem was.

Re: Speed suddenly halved since Monday morning

Glad you're sorted again mate, your stats all look fine. Just for future reference make sure the Ethernet cables a Cat5e or better or if it happens again try swapping them out to see if it makes any difference 🙂
