Speed after installing pods

Hi

Before installing pods, my hub 3 on split SSIDs could gain max speed (500M/b) on the 5ghz Wi-Fi when at the router.
Since installing the pods and having to change to a single SSID, the most I can get, even when stood in front of the router is now 200M/b.

Is there a reason for this? How can I tell if the 5ghz is transmitting?

I have an old router that had issues, hence the reason for the pods, but this still transmits at 500M/b so I know the hub is fine, and the connect app doesn’t report any issues

Re: Speed after installing pods

Pods extend coverage but each WiFi hop tends to loose speed. A 200Mb/s transfer shows the 5Ghz is working, a speed test on the 2.4Ghz band is typically in the 35 - 50 Mb/s range.

Put a WiFi analyser app on your mobile phone, this will enable you to see the WiFi signals from your kit and from those close to you.

2.4Ghz WiFi operates over channels 1 to 13   ( 1, 6 and 11 are the preferred channels )

5Ghz WiFi operates on channel 36 and higher.

Re: Speed after installing pods

Thanks for replying.

I understand the loss on the pod, as the distance from the hub will affect it, as I only get 130M/b when out of distance to the hub, but why, when I test at the hub is it still showing a lower speed, only after combining the SSID?

I am going to cable the pods up, so I’ll see what difference that makes.

Re: Speed after installing pods

So installed second pod close to a switch so was able to cable it up. Speed was registering less than 100Mb, which was even worse than the Wi-Fi connected pod!
Decided to start from scratch, switched off the pods, then tested at the hub, still only getting 200Mb. Rebooted the hub and re-optimised the Wi-Fi. Finally got 500Mb on Wi-Fi at the hub.

Switched on the cabled pod, 500Mb. Switched on the Wi-Fi pod, just over 200Mb, which considering the location wasn’t too bad.

Dont know why it wasn’t full optimisation from the start but appears to be working properly now. Just get the last pod cabled and all will be good.

Re: Speed after installing pods

It must be the "WiFi Max Intelligent WiFi" takes a while to sort itself out ..........   🙄

Agree with the cabled backhaul you have installed btw.
