Slower broadband speed after upgrade

I recently upgraded from 200mb to 350mb package. I have the Super Hub 3, and have tested using a wired connection, with a single device wired into the hub. Previously was getting 200+ down and 20+ up. Now getting 40mb/40mb.

I have tried the following:

  • Factory reset the hub (twice. Using the method of holding the reset button for 60 seconds)
  • Connected using Cat 6 and Cat 7 cables
  • Tested Wifi connection with a single device placed next to the router

I have seen other people with this issue who have required a settings update at Virgin's end, or a replacement router.

Any help would be appreciated. I have been with Virgin a long time, but thinking strongly of leaving. I have issue with the Super Hub 3 not working in modem mode, due to a fault with the Puma chipset. If this isn't fixed by the Super Hub 4, I will be off to BT

Re: Slower broadband speed after upgrade

Please do this before posting the Hub Data

If possible can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Please post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here straight away.

Instructions for posting BQM Live Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Slower broadband speed after upgrade

Thanks. I have a BQM set up from a previous issue:

My BQM

Also, I can't see an option to check router status on the login screen?

Re: Slower broadband speed after upgrade

Your >> BQM << is showing typical signs of over utilisation which is only to be expected with so many people schooling and working from home.

A good friend of the forums @Andruser has commented on the forum about similar problems to yours ...

Re: Slower broadband speed after upgrade

Can you please post your Hub data. just to see if there is anything else lurking in the background.

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then Advanced Settings > Tools > Network Status.

Please do not use screen shots.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again.

Use one post for each tab if you wish.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Re: Slower broadband speed after upgrade

I understand the over-utilisation is an issue at the moment, what doesn't make sense is the speed drop straight after the upgrade.

Even with the over-utilised network I was getting around 200mb prior to the upgrade
