Slow download speeds & congestion

Made a thread about this before but haven't had a reply for over 3 weeks so making another. See my last post here for how bad it's been https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Slow-download-speeds/m-p/4501326#M251039

There is congestion in my local area and this needs fixing. Everything on my end with my hub etc looks fine, but at peak times my speeds get as bad as <20mbps (I'm on the 350mbps package), there has been no improvement at all in the last few weeks. Can this please be investigated? Thank you.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

If possible can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Please post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here straight away.

Instructions for posting BQM Live Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then Advanced Settings > Tools > Network Status.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Config and network log look fine. Config file is A,.iyewrkldJKDHSUBsgvca69 if that's relevant at all. Only noteworthy things in the log are an RCS Partial Service at 21/01/2021 20:34:38, oh and that time last week the hub randomly decided to do a software update disconnecting me from my game... only other things are the usual DHCP Renew, DHCP RENEW WARNING, No Ranging Response received messages.

This is clearly a congestion issue in my local area, please can Virgin Media investigate and fix this. Thanks.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

BQM doesn't show symptoms of congestion.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

Well it's really congested like under 100mbps just now. Under 20mbps at the peak of it.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

Good afternoon @hammy434

I have just taken a quick peek at your account. I can see that there us a downstream utilisation issues, this will be the cause of the slow speeds.

Kind regards,

Zak_M

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

Hi Zak, thanks for your reply.

Could you give more info on exactly what the issue is and what's being done to investigate/fix it, and how long this will take please? This has been going on for a number of months now and is not acceptable.

Thank you.

Re: Slow download speeds & congestion

A Downstream utilisation is precisely that, the downstream has a utilisation issue.

I have today re-checked the account and can't see the issues present at the moment. Are you able to let me know if your issues still persists?

Kind regards,

Zak_M
