Slow Upload on M500

Having read the multitude of similar (and recent) posts on this issue I suspect this is just an overutilisation issue in my area, but thought I'd post as I've had zero luck with VM tech support.

On M500, have blisteringly fast download speeds (~530Mbps) but shockingly poor upload speeds (~2-3 Mbps). We recently moved in ~3 weeks ago and since activation it's been full across both down and up for a few weeks. Oonly in the last 48 hours the upload has dropped and making working from home incredibly difficult.

I've tested everything wirelessly, wired (SH3 is in modem mode - tried in router mode also), speedtest.net, samknows, appropriate cat6 cable etc. Happening across all devices consistently where before everything was as expected.

Spent 2 hours on phone to VM "tech support" and went through the usual turn it off and on again and was told that "there is no technical fault or problem" and that they would just add a 30 day OFCOM monitoring to my line.

Re: Slow Upload on M500

Your BQM is showing High Utilisation.

You can try phoning in the slow speeds and see what they say.

Re: Slow Upload on M500

Thanks. Yep tried that (as per first post) - they told me it's not a problem - or rather, no issue with my equipment, no issue with virgin - but wouldn't agree that the slow upload was a problem and just told me they would apply an OFCOM monitoring to my line. Is it worth trying again - I know VM tech support is hit and miss?

Re: Slow Upload on M500

Start getting the slow speed evidence together ...

What speeds do you get at >>  SamKnows << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better ethernet cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Then immediately after …

Can you Login to the Hub Settings and navigate to the Connected Devices page - what is the reported 'connection speed’ for the ethernet cable connected device you used for the speed test ?

Re: Slow Upload on M500

Thanks for the help. Used a cat6 cable (multiple in fact incl. one provided by VM I had spare) with a macbook pro - averaging over 500 Mbps for download, upload does not go above 4 Mbps and is generally around ~2-3Mbps. Practically identical results over WiFi (using both ac and ax capable devices).

BQM does look a little less noisy today but uploads have still been poor - latency did seem a tad better (maybe less people working on Friday's?).

Anedotally checked this at night and first thing in the morning, had full consistent speeds until around ~8am at which point it started dipping. So suspect it is a utilisation issue?

Also had a SW download to the router last night (v 9.1.1912.304) but assume those are fairly routine and unrelated?

Upload stats are also a little more stable today with 3 channels staying on 64 qam and only one dropping down to 16.

Re: Slow Upload on M500

It is certainly looking like a utilisation issue, phone in and as them to sort out the slow speeds and see what they say.
