Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

Hi, for the last 2 months I've been having a lot of issues with the 350mbs service. Getting low speeds, buffering while watching Netflix and Amazon Prime, and high ping while gaming. Tried router restarts, Modem mode and it's same on Ethernet and Wifi.

I've set up a Broadband Quality Monitor the last week and it seems to be picking up high latency and some packet loss. Anyone have any ideas? Last few days of BQM below.

My Broadband Ping - 7th

My Broadband Ping - 8th

TIA

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

Could you access your router using http://192.168.0.1/ . Don't log in, select the 'Check Router Status' option and paste your 'Downstream', 'Upstream', and 'Network Log' tabs?

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

Its likely your Docsis connection is fine likely you have speed dips when watching Netflix or Amazon Prime it buffer ahead speed dips not enough video in the buffer.

Run speed tests when your BQM shows high ping.

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

The power figures (Power (dBmV)) on the downstream are too high (You've only posted 9 of the 24 channels, I assume because you didn't scroll down to the rest of the data!). They should be as close to '0' as possible, they can go negative, and the max should be '10'.

Your upstream channels should be '64 qam' which none of them are!

Other than checking the wiring between your router and wall socket (make sure it's clean and secure) you'll need an engineer to investigate.

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

+11 is the max for downstream power - 10 is still OK and usable.

However the upstream is all over the place so something isn't right!

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

Thanks for the info Carl. Wiring looks fine, it's never been touched since first installation. It does have a splitter on though which the engineer installed, maybe this could be the problem.

I'll see if a Forum Admin picks this up to book me an engineer out before trying to get through to them.

Thanks

Re: Slow Internet Speeds, High Ping

Thanks for the post Lbeech and welcome to our community.

We can see there are some power level issues showing in the network logs so we'll send you a private message to pass security and book in an engineer appointment for you.

Thanks, Emily.
