Slow Ethernet speed

Does anyone know why I  only get 77mbps when I'm using a brand new virgin media ethernet cable and 111mbps when I'm using WiFi

😁

Re: Slow Ethernet speed

Hi

Thanks for your reply

Ive tried it on two other devices now and all three devices say 77-81mbps

Ive not tested the cable but its a brand new one that came with the VM Hub

Maybe I will just buy another one anyway

Could you access the HUB on http://192.168.0.1, log in, and navigate to the 'Connected Devices' section.

This should show a list of wired and wireless devices connected to the HUB, and the 'Speed (Mbps)' each device is connected at.

Could you find the device you are using and check if the value is '100' or '1000'?

Yes, that means your device is connecting at a lower than expected/optimal speed (100Mbps instead of 1Gbps (1000Mbps)).

You need to check your cable and device to ensure they are both capable of the faster speed.

Re: Slow Ethernet speed

Ok 👍👍👍👍

Cable says virgin media cat 6 utp

And the device is a 4k firestick

Maybe its the firestick

I will see what I can find out about the firestick, well actually my other firestick down stairs gets 112mbps so must be dodgy cable

Cld you recommend a particular cable

Thank you very much for your help its very much appreciated

Firestick ethernet adapters are pretty much always 10/100 (100Mbps).

Ironically you'll probably, or do I should say, see faster speeds over wireless!

Re: Slow Ethernet speed

Sorry 🤭

i shld of said it was a firestick to start with

The adapter did advertise saying it was capable of upto 480mbps

How about when I plugged the ethernet directly into my TV that speed test said only 56mbps

Could still be cable you think?

I will just buy a new one and see what happens

Thanks again for all your help
