Slow Broadband speed

(I have tried to resolve this issue via the Virgin Media Chat but at present after several attempts no response ... and life is much too short to get put on hold if I ring up)

Over the last week my Broadband speed has dipped to 80m and I'm paying for 200m ... this is via a hard wire connection and not via wifi ... plus I don't use the HUB3 for wifi it's set to modem only and has been for years.  My router is a Unifi USG which has never been an issue and I normally get speeds of 180m over ethernet.

Can someone from Virgin assist?

Cheers.

Re: Slow Broadband speed

Try another speed test with ethernet cable device without the Unifi USG in the network.

Re: Slow Broadband speed

I could do but then I think would need to switch my HUB3 back into Router mode ... and from what I remember switching it into Modem mode was a nightmare last time.

Plus can't say much has changed my end so would be good for the Big company to check there end before the Small consumer has to jump thru hoops 🙂

Re: Slow Broadband speed

You don't need to put the Hub into Router Mode.

Your choice whether to test or not.

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Slow Broadband speed

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then click ‘Check Router Status’.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Re: Slow Broadband speed

Your Pre & Post RS Error counts are very high.

In an ideal world they would be at zero and stay there. To zero them can you reboot the Hub using this method and then keep an eye on the counts.

Switch the Hub off using the small switch on the rear of the Hub next to the power cord and pull the PSU plug from the wall socket.

Give it a good 5 minutes put the plug back in and switch the Hub back on.

Allow the Hub a few minutes to fully restart then check the counts again in an hour or so.

Re: Slow Broadband speed

Apart from the RS Levels addressed above, your Hub data looks OK to me.

Can you Login to the Unifi USG Settings and navigate to the Connected Devices page - what is the reported 'connection speed’ for the ethernet cable connected device you used for the speed test ?

Re: Slow Broadband speed

I thought you had found the issue :), well you did in part ... the ethernet between my Unifi Switch and my USG was running at 100 rather than 1gb and so went and took at look and the uplink ethernet cable must have been damaged, so replace and now at 1gb ... and my speed has increased now but only to 106 (max after x3 attempts).
I will try again and directly connect my laptop to the modem (unsure if i'm doing it right, I swapped over my lead to my USG to my Laptop, set my Ip to 192.168.100.2, 255.255.255.0, gw 192.168.100.1, dns blank (presuming no dhcp so had to set myself), also I will try and work my way back up the chain, to see if the connection gets worse.
