Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

As subject, for weeks, I have been having repeated problems in the BL4 area of Bolton.

Is anyone else having problems as well?

Have you checked for any “known network faults”

As well as trying the “check service,”Area status webpage" (link at top right of this forum), also try the “free & automated” Service Status number - 0800 561 0061 - which usually gives the most up to date info. and tells you of more local issues down to postcode level. These may not be listed on the Area Status web page (Areas are not “Geographic” they are billing areas) as that usually only covers faults affecting 1000’s of customers) so phone may give you more info, but even that wont cover problems affecting just a few customers - or just you.

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

The Website has always said there are no problems, but when I check the Tel No for my specific area, it acknowledges "intermittent problems in the BL4 area" and says they are working hard to rectify this. It has been like this for 4 or 5 weeks now.
I should be on 200MBps, but am struggling to get 60 for download and less than 10 for upload.

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

In your "Services" bit, you seem to say that you have your Virgin Hub set as Modem only, with a separate Airport Extreme Router for WiFi (and 2 No signal boosters - is this what Airport Express' are?). Is this because the Virgin Router / WiFi unit is not up to the job?
Have you any idea what a similar wet up on Windows and Android might be, as I do not think that Virgin's Router is very good.

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

Yes.... My house is a mini "Faraday Cage" and the two expresses boost the signal in the back room and upstairs. I think of it as an older "Pseudo Mesh" system - and it does a good job.

Unfortunately Apple pulled out of the Networking business a few years ago - so when it meets its maker - I will look elsewhere.

Many Apple Networking staff left to join "Ubiquity", -  take a look at their range of routers/wireless equipment - it is top notch - but not cheap.

If you want a good quality reasonable priced system look at the TP-LInk Deco Mesh range.   Start at the M4 (2 or 3 pack) then look at M5 then the x20 range (if you want wifi6) - they also have a tri-band system that does have some advantages as well

Ask back if you need other recommendations from me or others

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

Thanks very much for that - I'll have a look at the systems you mentioned. I am getting rally frustrated with the Virgin Hub.

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

It did get better while the technician was here, but later yesterday afternoon, dropped out again, and today seems to be back to fairly low speeds.
I will keep monitoring.

Re: Repeated Broadband problems Bolton BL4 area

I notice it most when I am trying to home work, so have not really checked over the weekend, but it does seem to be back to a fairly slow connection (20Mbps).
